About this car
The original Cinquecento – nearly four million were built over 18 years, helping to motorise post-war Italy. Tiny, charming, and unmistakably Italian, with a rear-mounted air-cooled twin producing just enough power to get you up a hill. This is a later example from 1972, towards the end of the production run.
On screen
Works as a current car for anything set between the late 50s and mid-70s. The Fiat 500 reads as cheerful poverty – the student’s car, the young couple’s first runaround, the nun’s shopping trip.
In anything set after the 1970s, it’s a period piece: a cherished classic, a prop outside a trattoria, or the quirky car a particular kind of character refuses to give up.
